JEREMY JUSTICE.WORDCOUNT FOR LGBT CREATIVE WRITING GROUP. 15.5.16.

I am struggling with this word; it seems slippery and elusive(to paraphrase TS Eliot).

JUSTICE/INJUSTICE

I just had another anti-Corbyn tirade:”he is too associated with homophobic, racist, sexist hard left class-based politics {workerists}”, and he “needs them for his power base”. True or untrue?; are these sentiments true or false or a mixture?; are they just(as in “fair”)?Probably, a mixture, like many things in life (however much we would wish them to be crystal-clear, set in stone). Cf. a Merseyside debating group, formed, originally, by “class-trumps-all-other-oppressions” workerists, of which I was unfortunate enough to be a member (someone termed it “Homophobia in the Pubs” and, from a significant minority {mainly men} it had a masculinist core). So, I have been on receiving end of that. Not that I do not support the class struggle; I do; but think it is a disingenuously simplistic analysis of stratas of oppression and discrimination and marginalization:poverty(or not) would seem to be more of a common factor or “we are all oppressed in sometimes different/sometimes similar ways/overlapping ways, but we are all EQUALLY oppressed, so let’s unite!”. That would seem to be justice for all, sans marginalisation or exclusion.

The Left HAS struggled to change;much of it(with admirable exceptions like Corbyn and friends of mine and many others) has remained sexist, heterosexist, homophobic, transphobic and racist. Corbyn has inherited that legacy, but he also has the base and support of other people who CHALLENGE these one-dimensional, non-intersectional approaches; so it is complex; justice? Well, it is justice to see the OVERALL picture and this man struggling within it, with what he has got, struggling for SOCIAL justice, ie fairness; eradication of poverty, to name but two. So, that is attempting to be just to Jeremy:)! Jeremy Corbyn, a man who stood up for lesbian and gay rights (as they were then reduced to) as early as the 70s; and consistently raises lgbt human rights abuses in negotiating with homophobic and transphobic nations. Please be just to a just man: see the limited resources and not-perfect powerbase/core support with which he works.

Another INjustice: there is NO DIALOGUE; dialogue is justice because, thereby, we listen to each other, across the empty, echoing divides(real or perceived). But first we have to give justice to OURSELVES, as individuals; sort out the self, then go outwards, sans projections and consequent introjections of our own prejudices which lead to,for example, homophobia or sexism, if not checked in ourselves; include our own other in our own single self; and, only then, is it possible to see a true joy in difference in others:cf. internalised homophobia, which is then projected outwards on to openly gay people because of unresolved sexual orientation issues in the self. So, self-dialogue leads to inter-dialogue.

Justice for the self

Justice for everyone; and, where caught in the middle, in the throes of micro and macro conflict, justice for Jeremy!
