FREEDOM: WRITTEN ON FORMING AN LGBTQ CREATIVE WRITING GROUP.A (SORT OF) POEM. BY STEVEN BENSON

I was blocked,

I was locked;

I wrote re

Decay.

I sub

Limated.

I discoursed on

Queer Theory and

Gay Studies.

—————————————————————–

But I wrote little

About ME,

Directly.

I obfuscated.

All this was/is

Good; all

Creative;

I am not

Decrying it……But

I had said

I had wanted

To write a
Gay male

Love Story.

They even

Encouraged me

In the

“Mainstream”/Mixed

Group.

Yet, I

Doubted if it were a
Genuine plea; or

Was I being

Patronised?

(they couldn’t

Win!).

It all felt like a

Statement.

I just

Wanted to be

ME:not

Necessarily to

Write about

Me; but

To be able to

Include lgbtq

Content of

ANY kind

IF I wanted.

——————————————————————

This clumsy

“Poem”, with its

Lack of

Imagery and other

Poetic tropes-

More like a

Personal Mission

Statement or a

Polemic

(Or is that

Self-oppression?!):-

This “poem” is,

I hope,a

Precursor to

OPENLY writing about

Gay male and same sex

Love/content;or,

Perhaps,

I just need it

To be

Theoretically

There as an

OPTION.
