QUESTIONS TO PONDER ON GAY/QUEER WRITING, AND WRITING IN GENERAL.INFORMED BY ROBERT GLUCK AND NEW NARRATIVE.BY STEVEN BENSON

1. “how to be a theory-based writer and represent myself as a gay man”(Robert Gluck, “Long Note on New Narrative”,); questions with which I, myself, am still struggling; and the first of which could also well relate to cross/multi(therefore queer as in transverse/across)genre writinghttps://towardsutopia.wordpress.com/about/

2.QUESTIONS FOR ANY WRITER

(Again, from Gluck’s self-reflective essay, ibid)

a. “How can I convey urgent social meanings while opening up or subverting the possibilities{ie. the relativistic nature} of meaning itself”

b.”What kind of representation least deforms{sic}its subject{ie. what is representation, to you, to me, existentially, what is accurate and authentic?}

c “can language be aware of itself(as object, system {hegemonic or counter-cultural}, as commodity{catering, or not, to the reader market-place}, as abstraction) yet take part in the forces that generate the present?”{By which I take Gluck to mean writing QUA writing, SANS the theorising, as it flows, non-meta}

d.”When in writing does engagement become authentic?”{Here the relevances to existentialism and phenomenology are obvious:self-authentic; and as a phenomenon  which is writing IN/FOR itself(as an object, Husserl), ie what the author- putatively at least- meant/”meant”; but how our individual consciousness(es) RECEIVES  the object(writing) as a reader, and/or gives it back out as a writer, especially if writing outside the hegemonic mould{our “consciousness of the phenomenon”, Husserl again}).

{more to follow on Gluck as a self-referential, consciously gay male, formalist(to a degree) writer, trying to break down the barriers of socially constructed modes of writing and construct the gay male equivalent(and more!later developed by gay male writers like Bartlett)of Cixous’s “Feminine Ecriture”(“The Laugh of the Medusa” being the Manifesto for that), ie homoerotic and social/cultural/political “male to male consciousness”(Dr. Christopher Madden)
