META POEM, inspired by John Irving, “In One person”.By Steven Benson

beginning to write a poem.. or something/some hybrid…

I want to write

A poem

About a

Novel..

Its not a

Review;

Its a

Mish-mash

(Multi-genre!).

……………………………………………………………

Irving’s novel is about how a boy grows up in 50s/60s United States. He is BEYOND (self/societal) labelling;but he, concomitantly, labels HIMSELF for purposes of Self-definition: to find his way, in a heteropatiarchal society: so he sees himself as a bisexual male who is also attracted to male to female transsexuals(Miss Frost, for instance.).He comes from a dysfunctional family. His grandfather crossdresses and is a possibly repressed homosexual. But the point is :……………

We cannot really

Label,

Sum up,

ANYone;

We are all too

Variegated:

As Irving

Says:

“In ONE

Person”

………………………

Edmund White and

John Irving

Discourse

Vociferously,

Pro and con

Labelling:

It can be

Useful

(Its complex!)

In some

Circumstances;

Leading to a

Pro-active

Joyful

(Re) Appropriation

Of a whole

Colourful

Creative

Lgbt/Queer

Culture;

Yes-Culture.

This is NOT self-

“Pigeonholing”.

………………………………………………………..

Is THAT what they are

Envious  of?

(NOT directed at our

Supporters!):

that we have our own (lgbt/Queer) culture: art, literature, music, dance et al; a whole panoply; and some of the greatest artists were lgbt: Tchaikovski, Hockney, Handel, Copland, Francis Bacon, Forster, Tippett, Britten, Szymanowski(I am sure you could add many others of your own!); possibly(if he existed as one person) even…. SHAKESPEARE.
