THE BAR

I worked in a bar once.

It was NOT illuminated.

But dark

And dank

And cavernous.

In front of the bar

It was a Bohemian paradise;

Behind the bar a nightmare

Of changing barrels

And adding up…

In your head.

It seems a different Life

Now,

Twenty-two years

Ago.

But I graft it

Onto me

NOW

As part of THIS life

Thanks for this biographical snapshot. Interesting contrast to the “Illuminated Cafe” poem. In the two I see the basis of a short story or memoir. Your life then, your life now. . . .
